The Senior Lecturer (Dance) will play a key academic and leadership role in advancing excellence in teaching, research, and artistic practice within the School of Dance. The position places strong emphasis on practice-based and practice-led research, with particular interest in Ballet, Contemporary Dance, and Asian or Southeast Asian dance practices within regional and global contexts.
The successful candidate will demonstrate international exposure in teaching, research or performance, contribute actively to curriculum innovation, and support programme development and management within the School.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Senior Lecturer (Dance) will play a key academic and leadership role in advancing excellence in teaching, research, and artistic practice within the School of Dance. The position places strong emphasis on practice-based and practice-led research, with particular interest in Ballet, Contemporary Dance, and Asian or Southeast Asian dance practices within regional and global contexts.
The successful candidate will demonstrate international exposure in teaching, research or performance, contribute actively to curriculum innovation, and support programme development and management within the School.
- Teaching and Student Development:
- Undertake 20-24 contact hours per week during term time
- Design, develop, and review curriculum, assessments, and learning resources
- Develop innovative course materials, assessments, and resources to integrate elements/ influences of Asian dance practices in various modules
- Provide academic management and support with module and curriculum delivery
- Cultivate an inclusive learning environment that accommodates students from varied backgrounds and skill levels
- Provide academic advising, supervision, mentorship, and pastoral care to students
- Artistic, Academic and Research Contribution:
- Create original and creative works that blend Ballet or Contemporary styles with Asian dance elements or SEA art influences for performance events
- Pioneering collaborations with various disciplines and programmes, with the focus on Southeast Asian topics or projects
- Collaborate with local and international artists and institutions to provide students with enriching learning experiences
- Contribute to curriculum innovation informed by research and contemporary practices
- Industry, Community and International Engagement:
- Demonstrate teaching, research, or professional practice experience, including work with overseas institutions, festivals, companies, or research networks.
- Establish partnerships with community organizations and educational institutions to enhance outreach and educational opportunities.
- Build and maintain professional networks with local, regional and international artists, companies, festivals and institutions
- Contribute to the internationalisation strategy of the School through curriculum design, visiting artist programmes, and global learning opportunities for students.
- Recruitment, Marketing and Outreach:
- Establish partnerships with cultural organizations and educational institutions to enhance international outreach and educational opportunities
- Support student recruitment through organisations of auditions, open house, regional outreach activities and initiatives
- Support various marketing platforms established by SOD
- Administrative Responsibilities:
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to strategic planning and program development for the dance curriculum.
- Support the Associate Dean in managing academic and administrative matters
- Maintaining records relating to students’ progress, performance and attendance
- Provide pastoral care, injury advise and talent development support for students
- Advise students on academic and professional pathways within the dance and creative industry
Requirements
- Minimum Masters qualification in a relevant discipline
- Minimum 8 years of teaching and professional working experience
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
- Strong knowledge of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, with understanding of Asian or Southeast Asian dance practices
- Evidence of international exposure through teaching, research, performance, or professional practice
- Proficient in diverse dance techniques, with the ability to integrate various artistic disciplines through collaborations
- Experience in academic or programme management will be an added advantage
