The Wedding Banquet
2001
Oil on canvas
153 x 153 cm

Celebrating the life and work of NAFA alumna Kit Tan Juat Lee (1953-2022), this exhibition features a selection of works drawn from her artistic journey spanning over three decades. Tan graduated from Nanyang University Singapore in 1976 and was a Chinese language teacher for close to two decades before pursuing art full-time. Her artistic achievements were recognised at local and regional levels, winning prizes and special mentions at prestigious art events including the ASEAN Art Awards, Sovereign Asian Art Prize and the UOB Painting of the Year competition, where she remarkably won twice, the Grand prize, in 1997 and 2004.

This tribute exhibition commemorates the artist’s legacy and pays homage to her admiration for Chinese classical literature, art and philosophy that had deeply influenced her work. In her journey fuelled by personal experiences, intellectual curiosity and appreciation of artistic and literary traditions, her works remind us of the breadth of human experience connecting us all, across time and cultures.
