TERRAINS: A solo exhibition by Yong Wee Loon
Bringing together some 40 paintings, studies and works on paper, TERRAINS traces Yong’s evolution from detailed observational painting to more recent explorations of colour, form and composition. Grouped thematically, not chronologically, across three zones charting his evolving visual language, Yong is driven by a continuing interest in people, places and everyday scenes, and how the familiar can look different over time.
The exhibition follows Yong’s two-month residency at NAFA’s studios at Cité internationale des Arts in Paris (March-April 2026), where, away from the familiar subjects and routines, he explored new approaches to composition, colour and interpretation that continues after his return to Singapore and informed the newer works in TERRAINS.
