Americ graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Dr. John Sharpley, Dr. Goh Toh Chai and the late Leong Yoon Pin. He furthered his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria, where he received instructions from Gerd Kühr, Pierluigi Billone and Peter Ablinger.

As an active composer, his works were broadcasted under the Austrian Radio and performed in various festivals. They were also included in the repertoire for international art song competitions such as the Franz Schubert und der Moderne and the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb.

In addition to composition, Americ has also received instructions in choral conducting under Johannes Prinz and correpetition under Wolfgang Bozic. He is also co-founder of The Art Song Consortium (Singapore), where he helped to create and promote art song recitals.

He is a recipient of the National Arts Council Arts Bursary (Overseas) and the Outstanding Artist Award for Music of the city of Graz.
