Xin Xiaochang is Head of the Special Projects Unit at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), University of the Arts Singapore. She leads initiatives focused on talent development and also teaches service design in the BA (Hons) Design Practice programme.
An artist and educator, Xiaochang works across art and design, drawing on years of professional practice, a sustained engagement with materials and making, and a deep commitment to education and community.
She previously worked at ModernAge Design & Communications in Singapore and Studio Job in Antwerp, contributed to Milan Design Week 2008, and collaborated with Royal Tichelaar Makkum, one of the Netherlands’ oldest ceramics companies. Her artwork, primarily ceramics combined with other materials, takes the form of sculptures, installations, and mixed-media works, and has been exhibited internationally and acquired by private and corporate collections.
Since 2009. Xiaochang has lectured in three-dimensional design and fine art at NAFA. She co-edited The Machinist, documenting the life of a Jalan Besar lathe machinist and his community through a design-led project. Xiaochang holds a Master of Science in Applied Gerontology from Nanyang Technological University, and her current interests lie at the intersection of arts, health, and ageing, exploring how creative practice and design thinking can support wellbeing, foster meaningful engagement, and contribute to more person-centred healthcare experiences.
