AI for Educators: Core Concepts and Sustainable Practices (Online)

(4 sessions X 3 hours)

This course is designed to empower educators to stay ahead of technology and guide their students with confidence in the digital age. Guided by an experienced trainer with a deep understanding of the challenges in the classroom, learners will be equipped with the fundamental knowledge and skills to navigate the exciting world of AI beyond tools like ChatGPT or Gemini. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and hands-on activities, educators will gain a solid understanding of core AI concepts and explore how to integrate AI tools sustainably for a positive impact on teaching and learning.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this module, learners will be able to:
  1. Explain the core principles of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) no matter how technology continues to evolve.
  2. Differentiate between various AI applications and their potential benefits for education.
  3. Critically evaluate the ethical considerations and potential biases involved in AI tools.
  4. Identify sustainable practices for implementing AI in the classroom, focusing on equity, inclusion, and environmental impact.
  5. Explore different AI tools and resources applicable to their specific teaching context.
  6. Develop a plan for integrating AI into their curriculum responsibly and effectively.


Our Trainers

 

Julius Yls

With over two decades of experience in higher education across various countries, Julius deeply understands the challenges and needs unique to educators. He has navigated the complexities of teaching diverse student populations, adapting to the ever-evolving educational landscape, and is well-equipped to guide fellow educators through integrating emerging tools such as AI into their teaching methodologies and activities.

Julius Yls holds a Master's Degree in Computer Graphic Design and spent more than twenty years teaching Art and Technology at higher education levels in New Zealand, Singapore, and Dubai. His works and research have been exhibited in prestigious conferences such as Siggraph (USA), Transmediale (Berlin), CADE (Glasgow), ISEA (Toronto), and many more. Since 2011, he began to pursue fine art photography and his works received recognition from National Geographic Travel Award, IPPAwards, Huawei Next-Image Award, Paris Photo, and Fine Art Photography Awards London. His career seamlessly merges technology, art, and education, showcasing his multifaceted expertise and creative endeavours.

Leveraging his expertise in Art, Technology, and Education, he has navigated and stayed at the forefront of cutting-edge developments, including the rapidly evolving sectors of NFTs, the Metaverse, and AI. After his tenure as a Metaverse Product Manager, where he led the Metaverse team at a blockchain technology company in London, UK, he is now at the helm of several tech startups across Canada, Dubai, and New Zealand.
