Once Upon a Time in Southeast Asia - Southeast Asia in Context Lecture and Workshop

2 - 3 October 2019
Creative Media Studio and TB10-01

A lecture and workshop series was held for Year 2 Diploma in Fine Art and Art Teaching students to establish a context for thinking about Southeast Asia and Southeast Asian Art.

Conducted by Dr Bridget Tracy Tan, Director of the Institute of Southeast Asian Art and Art Galleries, more than 60 students were given a lecture on the region’s historical narrative, social and political constructs, cultural products and self-expression in both past and present time.

The student participants were engaged in a series of discussions and given an artefact to consider the presentation and idea of the object in a work of art. Students were encouraged to seek an expression relating to Southeast Asia. The workshop concluded with presentations by students to share their thought processes.
