NAFA x Scanteak – Homage to Design Entrepreneurship

In a homage to design entrepreneurship, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and Scanteak presented a collaborative showcase from 4 to 10 March 2019 at the Suntec City mall.

On 9 March 2019, Senior Minister of State (Ministry of Communications and Information and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth) Ms Sim Ann, graced the event as the Guest of Honour and launched the Scanteak’s ‘Nest’ collection. Created by budding designers from NAFA, this designer collection of teak furniture aims to address the challenge of shrinking home spaces by providing multifunctional solutions to modern living.

Works by NAFA’s 3D Design alumni were also showcased—these are by designers who have either started their own business or have been making significant contributions in their craft.

During this week-long event, the public also had the opportunity to participate in workshops led by NAFA students, experiencing crafting using various materials such as leather.

This meaningful collaboration is testament to how industries, institutions and designers can work together to elevate Singapore’s design presence on a global stage.
