Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Students’ Presentation

In July 2017, NAFA’s School of Art and Design presented an interdisciplinary project by 16 Design and Media, Fashion Studies and Fine Art students at the National Gallery Singapore’s (NGS) Rooftop Studios. Responding to internationally-acclaimed artist Danh Vo’s NGS commission and taking his sculptural installation as the point of departure, the students explored issues of distortion and separation, identity and fragmentation through collages, textile works and wood puzzles.

Drawing from their experiences and challenges working on the project, students also shared their inspiration behind their final works to an attentive audience of friends, lecturers, and members of the public in a peer sharing session on 8 July.

While expanding on the different visual and conceptual aspects of the Danish-Vietnamese artist's ideas of art and his artistic practice, this NAFA-NGS collaboration simultaneously offered an opportunity for students to engage in conversations taking place in the global contemporary art scene.
