Much Ado About Nothing

Presented by the final year students of BA (Hons) in Theatre Arts from the School of Arts Management, Dance & Theatre (SOAMDT), Much Ado About Nothing was a sold-out production staged from 26 to 28 February 2016. The cast comprised 11 students who put up an entertaining performance of theatre at its best, in a total of 4 shows. This play shows Shakespeare at his most witty, thought-provoking and theatrical, in one of his most socially and psychologically realistic comedies. The dancing wordplay and memorable characters never fail to engage and enthral audiences, with the dual plot between the lovers and the darker side of male rivalry providing an entertaining, mesmerising and wonderfully rich portrait of communal life. This adaptation, which incorporates a Peranakan theme and references local culture and language, was directed by Andrew James Mowatt, Senior Lecturer in Theatre from SOAMDT. He is an accomplished actor who won the Best Actor Award at the 2010 Short and Sweet Theatre Festival and was also nominated for Best Actor in The Straits Times Life! Awards in 2006.
