Dr. See Ning Hui is a distinguished pianist and musicologist renowned for her insightful concert programming and interpretations of works by underrepresented composers. As a Kris Foundation Artist, her homecoming concerts at the Esplanade Recital Studio have been celebrated for their “refined touch, voluminous sound, and all-rounded musical personality” (The Straits Times). Ning Hui has performed extensively in the UK at prestigious venues such as Steinway Hall, St James’s Piccadilly, the Austrian Cultural Forum, and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, as well as at the Leeds International Concert Series and Pallant House Gallery. Her concert engagements have also included performances in France, Italy, and Harris Hall in Aspen, Colorado. She has been a soloist with the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto and the Danube Symphony Orchestra, with her performances broadcast on BBC Four, BBC Radio 3, and Singapore Symphony 92.4FM.
As a C H Scholar at the Royal College of Music in London, Ning Hui is pursuing a PhD that examines “How Pianists Programme Lesser-known Solo Repertoire: An Autoethnography through Clara Schumann’s Sonata and Interviews with Four Pianists.” Supervised by Prof Rosie Perkins, Prof Natasha Loges, and Danny Driver, her research investigates canon, musical value, and performer identity. Ning Hui has presented at international conferences for the Royal Musical Association, the European Platform for Artistic Research (AEC), and the Sibelius Academy.
Earlier in her career, she was a laureate of the ‘Città di Padova’ and César Franck International Piano Competitions, a finalist in the 2014 BBC Young Musician competition, and Grand Prize Winner at the 2012 Singapore Steinway Competition. She attained her BMus (Hons) and MMus at the RCM, winning the Esther Fisher Prize for best undergraduate. Her teachers have included Fang Yuan and Prof Albert Tiu, with masterclasses from Barry Douglas and Yoheved Kaplinsky further enhancing her artistry.
