Bernard has been involved in fashion retail for more than 25 years. His career in the industry started with the role of Buyer & Product Developer at Singapore Daimaru (the now defunct Japanese department store). This was followed by a three-year stint in Takashimaya Singapore where he managed an area of the department store for young fashion and lifestyle products.

In the next phase of his fashion retail career, Bernard was involved in all aspects of brand marketing and management at several leading fashion distributors in the region, including Wing Tai Retail, Dickson Stores and FJ Benjamin. There, he worked with a range of international fashion brands, including Gap, Banana Republic, Polo Jeans Company, Brooks Brothers, Miss Sixty, Engergie, Rebecca Minkoff, United Colours of Benetton, Sisley and Fox Fashion.

Taking a break from fashion in the late nineties, Bernard spent five years with international entertainment company Cirque du Soleil, assuming the role of Regional Head of Merchandising & Product Development for the Asia-Pacific tour. Together with a few partners, Bernard also launched a small start-up, which produced and sold self-designed lifestyle bags distributed in major department stores in Singapore and Thailand.

Bernard’s teaching career began in 2002 and he has taught in both the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and the Singapore Institute of Retail Studies for industry practitioners.
