Goh Boon Teck (Diploma in Fine Art, 1991) is the Artistic Director of Toy Factory Productions and a key figure in the development of contemporary Chinese-language theatre in Singapore. He co-founded Toy Factory Productions in 1990, and over more than three decades has maintained a sustained artistic practice marked by discipline, consistency, and long-term commitment to theatre-making.Goh is best known for seminal works such as Titoudao (1994), inspired by the life of his mother, pioneering opera actress Oon Ah Chiam, as well as The Crab Flower Club (2009) and Moonlit City (2025). His productions often draw from history, memory, and cultural identity, bridging traditional forms with contemporary theatrical language.Beyond directing and writing, Goh has played a significant role in nurturing theatre practitioners and building audiences for Chinese-language theatre in Singapore. Under his leadership, Toy Factory Productions has remained an active platform for experimentation, training, and cross-cultural collaboration, contributing to the resilience and continuity of the local theatre scene.In recognition of his sustained contributions to Singapore theatre and his influence on the nation’s cultural landscape across more than 30 years, Goh Boon Teck was conferred the Cultural Medallion 2025, Singapore’s highest artistic accolade.
