Certificate in Textiles Studies and Silkscreen Printing

Introduction

The purpose of this course is to equip learners with the fundamentals of textiles and to appreciate the visual and tactile aspects of textile products. At the end of the course, learners will be able to understand textile properties so that they can select the appropriate materials based on the end use of the product. They will gain knowledge on care and maintenance of textile products for a longer life span. Lastly, learners will also be able to appreciate the beauty of textiles by creating interesting surface textures through silkscreen printing.

Module 1 - Textiles Fundamentals (8 sessions x 3 hours)

This module equips learners with the knowledge and understanding of the various types of textiles, their characteristics, properties and end uses. Through textiles theory, learners will learn about the basics of natural and man-made fibres, yarn production, woven and knit fabric construction, as well as dyeing and printing methods. They will be able to recognise the types of fabric through burning tests and recommend simple fabric care instructions at the end of the module.

Module 2 - Silkscreen Printing (8 sessions x 3 hours)

This module equips learners with the knowledge of transforming drawings into motifs and print patterns, and eventually to produce interesting textile pieces. Through demonstrations and practices, learners will acquire the relevant skills to apply various techniques in order to create interesting surface textures of textiles. Textiles finishes such as pigment binder, metallic and emboss print, and tie-dye will be taught and learners will be able to experiment and create their own range of printed fabric samples at the end of the module.

Applicants must be 17 years old and above.

SkillsFuture Credit
All Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their $500 SkillsFuture Credit from the government to pay for a wide range of approved skills-related courses. National Silver Academy
Applicable to Singaporean seniors aged 50 and above who will receive a subsidy of 50% off the course fee (capped at $500 per course). Please note that the subsidy will only apply to the course fee and will not cover GST.

80 Bencoolen Street (S) 189655. The student's name, NRIC/Passport number and contact number must be written on the reverse side of the cheque.

Refund of Fees

Withdrawal within 14 days before the course commencement date Course fee^ will be refunded after deduction of S$107.00 as administrative charges.
Withdrawal on or after course commencement date
No refund will be given.
^Registration fees and miscellaneous fees are non-refundable.

Cancellation/ Postponement

  • NAFA reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course without prior notice.
    In the event that the class is unable to proceed due to unforeseen circumstances, NAFA will process a full refund of the course fees.

Withdrawal/ Deferment/ Transfer

  • Withdrawal or deferment requests should be made in writing with supporting relevant documents (if any) to Centre for Lifelong Education. Request for deferment is subject to approval.
  • No deferment is allowed once the course has commenced.
  • No transfer of course upon registration.

Replacement of Classes

  • There is strictly no replacement lesson should the participant absent himself/herself from the course.

Part-time Certificate courses (July 2019 Intake) will be commencing in the week of 8 July 2019.

The registration for July 2019 intake has ended.

The next intake will commence in January 2020, and registration will be in November 2019.
