Certificate in Studio Photography

This course introduces learners to the intricacies of studio photography. Upon completion of this course, learners will have a good understanding of the impact of artificial lighting on the look of a given image and be able to execute basic portrait shoots involving classic high-key and low-key lighting styles.

This course is suitable for beginners and learners familiar with product photography seeking to enhance their skills. Learners will be taught to take beautiful product pictures and master essential techniques in dealing with various types of object surfaces - reflective, transparent and textured etc.

Module 1 - Studio Portrait Photography
(8 sessions x 3 hours)
This module equips learners with the skills to handle and apply artificial lighting to create specific looks in portrait photography. Learners will acquire techniques in managing high-key and low-key lighting. The contents of this module will focus on studio-based portraiture photography. In addition, learners will have the opportunity to explore the finer points of different lighting styles during workshop sessions.

Module Content:
  • Learners will be exposed to the handling and application of artificial lighting to recreate specific looks.
  • Areas of studio-based portraiture and photography will be covered.
  • Learners will learn the application of high-key and low-key lighting setups.
  • Learners will be given the opportunity to explore the finer points of the different lighting styles during their workshop sessions.
Software: Adobe Photoshop / Adobe Lightroom


Module 2 - Studio Product Photography
(8 sessions x 3 hours)
This module provides learners with a good understanding of the impact of artificial lighting on the look of a given image. Learners will be able to handle and apply artificial lighting to recreate specific types of looks on a product by using digital cameras. During practical sessions, learners will be taught the application of 2-point and 3-point lighting setups.

Module Content:
  • Learners will be exposed to the handling and application of artificial lighting to recreate specific looks and discover the techniques for dealing with various surfaces.
  • Areas of studio-based product photography will be covered.
  • Learners will learn the application of 2-point and 3-point l lighting setups.
  • Learners will be given the opportunity to explore the finer points of the different lighting styles during their workshop sessions.

Our Trainers

 

Arron Teo

Arron Teo is a dedicated educator with more than 15 years of teaching experience in art and photography. He is currently an Adjunct Lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, imparting his 2D Visual Art & Photography knowledge to tertiary and certificate students. He was invited to conduct an art & photography workshop for MOE teachers at Singapore Teachers’ Academy for the aRts since 2014. Arron’s photographs have been awarded, exhibited and published locally & internationally. His works have been featured in various photobooks & magazines. The Singapore Art Gallery Guide featured his photo-documentary works from 2010 until their final printed copy in late 2016. Arron enjoys photographing people and behind-the-scene events. He was also commissioned by celebrities, government and corporate organisations for portraiture and photo-documentary assignments locally and overseas.



Eric Loh

Eric is a photographer and educator based in Singapore. As a photographer, his works include interior, architecture, food, and corporate portraits. His accolades include the Black & White Spider Awards and International Color Awards. With 15 years of experience in darkroom photography, Eric is passionate about reviving this analogue medium to a wider audience as a relief to screen fatigue in the digital age.
