Contemporary Dance

COURSE OVERVIEW

Students will receive comprehensive training in contemporary dance techniques which emphasise the establishment of a solid foundation and the development of creativity. It focuses on proper body alignment, body awareness, strength, flexibility, coordination and development of artistic value and synthesis. Students will obtain a greater connection with themselves through movement practice, establishing self-reflection skills and developing creativity.

Payment Terms

Current students should make payment of fees for each term or semester as per stipulated by the department.
Please login to the payment portal (using Chrome) https://payment.nafa.edu.sg/Students with your Student Admission No., and enter an OTP that will be sent to the mobile no. registered with us.
The department reserves the right to suspend a student's enrolment in the programme if the full fee is not paid by the specified deadline. In such a case, the student must submit a new application during the next intake, subject to a successful reaudition and availability.

In the event of the aforementioned situation affecting any other course, exam, or competition fees already paid, it is important to be aware that refund requests will not be entertained.

Refund of Fees

Audition Fee is non-refundable.

Fees are only refundable under the following conditions:
1. Full refund if the class is unable to proceed due to unforeseen circumstances.
2. If withdrawal is made within 14 days before the commencement of the semester/term, an administrative charge of S$50 (before prevailing GST) will be deducted.
3. If withdrawal is made within 14 days after the commencement of the semester/term, 1 month's tuition fee will be deducted.
4. Fees are non-refundable for withdrawal after 2 weeks into the semester/term*

HOW TO APPLY

There are two enrolments per year:

In November, for the January intake of the following year.
In May, for the July intake of the same year.

An audition does not guarantee a place in the course applied for. All applicants must pass an audition to be admitted.

An email will be sent to all successfully completed applicants to attend the audition. Once the details are confirmed, there can be no change.

You will receive an email acknowledgement for a completed application.
Payment notification will be sent to the registered email within 24 hours.
Make FULL payment at our payment portal upon receipt of the payment notification to confirm enrolment.
Registration will close for a course that is fully subscribed.

Important Notes:

There will be no classes on Public Holidays.
There will be no classes on dates that are strikethrough.
Students must pass the Internal Assessment to advance to the next level.
If applicable, students must pass the external examinations from the Royal Academy of Dance (Ballet) and from the Beijing Dance Academy (Chinese Dance) to advance to the next level.
There will be no make up lessons for missed classes.
Students involved in RAD examination have to be present from 22 Mar to 5 June

Chinese Dance levels involved: L2, L3, L8, L9, L10, L11, L12, All Elite classes.
Students involved in BDA examination have to be present from 18 Nov - 24 Nov. Applicable for Chinese Dance Level 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 Yr2.

FAQ

When does registration take place?

Twice a year, in November and May.
Register in November for courses commencing in January.
Register in May for courses commencing in July.

How do I register my child?

All new applicants will register online. Registering online does not guarantee a place as most of the courses are usually over-subscribed. Audition will take place after registration is closed.

Is an audition necessary for my child?

Yes, all new students will have to audition. All successful candidates will be offered a place. The audition results are final. The School reserves the right not to provide the reasons to unsuccessful candidates. All information provided during the registration and audition process is strictly confidential, therefore we are unable to provide any feedback regarding the outcome/results.

What is the class size?

The minimum number to start a class is 8. The maximum number is between 20 and 23 per class, depending on the size of the Dance Studio.

Can you accommodate students with learning needs?

Parents need to inform us about their child’s learning needs upon registration. Children with learning needs will be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis. Our classes are held in a large group setting; hence we are unable to accommodate or admit children who require one-to-one supervision during lessons.

What can my child learn?

We provide different genres of dance, exposing students to different disciplines, techniques and training. Our aim is for your child to learn a new skill set through the beauty of movement and encourage them to apply that discipline in their growing journey.

Will there be any exams?

There will be an internal assessment once a semester. Students will need to pass these compulsory assessments to be promoted to the next grade/level and be eligible to take the external examinations. Depending on the courses they are attending, eligible students will take external examinations with both the Royal Academy of Dance (UK) and/or Beijing Dance Academy (CN).

Where are the lessons held?

Our classes are held at the NAFA Campuses, 80 and 151 Bencoolen Street.

My child is unable to attend a lesson, is there any replacement class?

There is no replacement class for a lesson missed. The student may seek advice from the teacher-in-charge regarding the next lesson.

Does my child receive any certificate for this programme?

No certificate will be given for the completion of a course. However, candidates who participate in the Royal Academy of Dance and Beijing Dance Academy external exams and pass, will receive a certificate. Note that the external examinations are not conducted annually.
