Upon graduation from NAFA, Melvin furthered his studies in London and graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Product Design at Central Saint Martins - University of the Arts London.
A friend once encouraged me whilst I was contemplating starting out my own practice, “Just focus your efforts in designing a really good and sincere collection of objects and people will recognise you for it. Don't worry about the business end of things for now, they will slowly fall in place.”
During his studies at Central Saint Martins, he was privileged to by mentored by established designers such as Chris Lefteri and Reiko Kaneko. He then went on to work with London design agency Brand42, where he was involved in projects from CNN, Johnnie Walker and Mailonline.
Melvin has collaborated with Democratic Society to launch the first Singapore icons collection which won the Design of the Year under the President’s Design Award 2013. The following year, Melvin was nominated by Surface Asia magazine as one of the rising talents in Asia and was awarded the title of Rising Asian Talent by Maison & Objet Asia 2014.
