NK Tan has over 30 years of teaching experience and is actively involved in art & design education and activities.
He has presented papers in workshops and seminars, namely “Design Education in Singapore”, Design Education Symposium organised by ICOGRADA; “Creative Design Process” organised by Singapore Teachers’ Art Society; and “Understanding Visual Communication” for Singapore learning festival.
He has also been invited as a judge for various local and international design competitions, namely Retro Revival Art Exhibition 2012 organised by the Federation of Art Societies (Singapore); Art at Work, a design competition organised by Singapore Art Centre; Singapore Press Holdings Design Awards; Green Creations Design Competition; Taiwan Graphic Design Biennial Award; and Taiwan China Times Students Advertising Design Award.
NK has a wealth of administrative and academic experience. In his 30 years at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, he has contributed to and held lead roles in the shaping of the arts education of the Academy and Singapore. He was Senior Lecturer at the Department of Design & Media from 2000 to 2005, and Head of Visual Communication Department from 1991 to 2006. Currently, he is Head of the Fine Art Department, charting new grounds for the emerging creative generation.
