Richard Chia started his career in the performing arts industry in the 1980s, when he performed at Neptune Theatre Restaurant from 1983 to 1986, and was formally trained at SAF Music & Drama Company as a Dance Captain from 1986 to 1992.
His performing credits include Godspell, They’re Playing our Song, Forbidden City and Rent with the Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT), as well as Mortal Sins and Beauty World with TheatreWorks. His choreography credits include the National Day Parade, Chingay Parade, Pantomime for Wild Rice - Aladdin (2011) and Jack and the Beansprout (2013), as well as performances of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and St Andrew’s Junior Choir.
Richard has been teaching in the Theatre and Music Departments of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and at LASALLE College of the Arts for the BA in Musical Theatre since 2008. He is passionate about spreading the joy of performing, making tap dance more mainstream and training students who are not just technically strong, but also committed and passionate about the arts.
