Miguel holds a Master of Fine Art and Bachelor in Fine Arts (with Distinction) in Printmaking from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and has more than 15 years of teaching experience. As a Senior Lecturer, he mentors and imparts his knowledge, skills and techniques to students specializing in printmaking. Many of them have made a name for themselves in the art scene both locally and internationally.

Miguel manages the six top-up degree programmes offered within SOAD. Degree programmes are offered in partnership with Loughborough University, University of East London, and University of Central Lancashire, all from the UK.

Besides teaching, Miguel is also an active practicing artist that has created works that are impressionable as they capture the starkness of the human condition in contemporary setting, merging the concept of design and fine art.

Industry experience

He has participated in numerous group exhibitions and solo shows in Singapore and internationally in Japan, South Korea, The Philippines, Thailand and Ireland. He has exhibited with National Museum, Singapore Tyler Print institute Gallery and Jendela (Visual Art Space) at Esplanade, just to name a few. In 2005, he was awarded Juror’s Choice at the Philip Morris Singapore Art Awards and has held three solo exhibitions entitled Perception Is a Delusion at Jendela (Visual Art Space) Esplanade in 2008, Perception in 2005 and People 2000at Plastique Kinetic Worms, Singapore in 2000. His latest body of work was selected and shown in the exhibition Different Light at Osaka Japan in June 2016.

Miguel's artworks are widely seen in public. Notable works include 8, a wall mural project commissioned by Kranji Turf Club, Singapore; Fabulous Feast, a 3D sculpture commissioned by Esplanade, Singapore; and Aqua room 1, 2, 3 and 4 commissioned by New Majestic Hotel, Singapore.
