Jonathan brings to NAFA over 15 years of theatre experience in Singapore and the United Kingdom.

A graduate of the National University of Singapore’s BA Theatre Studies Programme, Jonathan has worked as an actor and director with numerous Singaporean and UK companies including the Singapore Repertory Theatre, W!LD Rice, Dream Academy, TheatreWorks, the SAF Music & Drama Company, ACTION Theatre, I Theatre and Tall Stories. Notable productions Jonathan has worked in include Chang & Eng - The Musical, Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress, Beauty World - 20th Anniversary, Sing To The Dawn, National Broadway Company and the Singapore premieres of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years and Songs For A New World. Most recently, Jonathan was seen as the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s younger brother, Dennis Lee, in The LKY Musical.

Jonathan has been nominated four times and has won the Straits Times Life! Theatre Award for his work on Caryl Churchill’s Mad Forest with theatre ensemble young&W!LD. In 2008, Jonathan was awarded the National Arts Council’s Arts Scholarship to train at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) where he received an MA (with Distinction) in Musical Theatre Performance. Upon returning to Singapore, Jonathan was appointed Associate Artistic Director of I Theatre Ltd where he founded Creative Edge - Theatre Training Ensemble, I Theatre’s youth training division, dedicated to nurturing the brightest young talent for the Singaporean stage.

Prior to joining NAFA, Jonathan spearheaded pedagogy training initiatives for arts instructors under the National Arts Council’s Arts Education Unit. He worked together with the National Institute of Education International to revamp the Specialist Diploma in Arts Education and SEED Institute for their Teaching the Arts in an Early Childhood Environment Continuing Education Training course.

A member of the Voice & Speech Trainers Association (VASTA), Jonathan is delighted to be joining the Theatre faculty at NAFA and looks forward to contributing to the growth of Singapore theatre.
