For 5 years, she taught at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts as a full-time faculty member until 2000, when she furthered her studies in Architecture - Master of Philosophy (MPhil) - at the Manchester School of Architecture in United Kingdom.

Working with SZ Partnership, Hayati has gained exposure in architecture related duties, as well as in the management of residential, civic and conservation projects. At Design Aim and Dan & Jon Consultants, she was instrumental in overseeing office, commercial and retail projects, ranging from on-site management to drawing out detailed design proposals.

Her wealth of experience in architecture and interior design based firms makes her a much sought after educator, especially of her expertise in the areas of design and related practical requirements of the industry.  She also contributes to NAFA, in the capacity of a mentor, involving in Academy-led overseas study trips and exhibitions.

Her research interests lie in Design Research and Historical Developments in which she passionately imparts the ethos of Design.
