Rajagopal is a well-recognized Mridangist in India and Singapore. He has accompanied many leading Indian classical musicians in India, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, Middle East and Europe. He has been training with the Mridangam and  Kanjira for more than 2 decades and is also an expert in teaching Ghatam and Morsing (Mouth Harp) - side percussion instruments of Mridangam in Indian Classical Music

Rajagopal started learning Mridangam, an Indian percussion instrument, from his father at the age of 7 and continued his advance training from Sri. R Vaidyanathan, staff artiste, All India Radio, Chennai.

Apart from Mridangam, he is also an exponent in Kanjira (Indian Frame Drum) and he regularly accompanies many stalwarts during the December Music Season and Bharatanatyam concerts in India.
