Deric is a spatial designer, who strives to design compelling visitor experiences with alluring narratives.
He began his practice in painting and subsequently studied and majored in interior and exhibition design. Further on, he explored spatial narrative, to create meaningful spaces for its users.
His multi-disciplinary professional practice includes scenic and production set design, together with spatial and events design. Additionally, he explores Creative Practices in Social Work, particularly for displaced or deprived children and teenagers. Some past projects include a film production with young refugees in London, and an art and craft exhibition for displaced children in Kenya.
As an Event Designer for Resorts World Sentosa, Deric specialises in spatial design and experiential narrative environments.
Deric designed a spatial installation for the IFI World Interiors for the New Generations 2007 in Busan, South Korea. The collaborative effort received the Grand Champion Prize and he was presented with the Outstanding Individual Award as well as the Busan Mayor Award. He was also a part of the London 2012 Olympics Ceremonies (LOCOG) Design team.
Deric is also part of a highly-diverse creative team, formed by members of various professional backgrounds, cultures and nationalities, which manages the conceptualization and realization of the annual USS Halloween Horror Nights event. Working closely with the producers, Deric and the design team created back stories, immersive scare zones and ‘haunted’ environments. The collaborative effort clinched the Singapore Experience Award 2015 - Leisure Event of the Year.
