Biography

Bernice is a documentary photographer based in Singapore.

In 2014, she clinched the top prize in the "Themed Body of Work" category of City Developments Limited (CDL) Singapore Young Photographer Award. Bernice has participated in group shows both in Singapore and internationally, including at the Pera Museum in Istanbul, as well as part of the ‘Asian Women Photography Showcase’ in Singapore.

Bernice is also the co-organiser of Platform, a bi-monthly show and share photography session in Singapore. Through Platform, she has overseen many big projects such as the ‘TwentyFifteen.Sg’ exhibition at the Esplanade in 2015 and book publications ‘+50’ and ‘Thank you, Mr. Lee’.

An avid traveller with a keen interest in social issues, she uses her work as visual stories to cast light on under-reported segments of society. Bernice’s illuminating stories on the male migrant workers in Singapore has been widely supported by grants from the National Arts Council and National Youth Council.

More recently, she dedicates her time working with and documenting the marginalized and underbelly of Singapore society. Bernice’s ethnographic-centred approach to photography has seen her working closely on photography and art projects with at-risk youths in low income neighbourhoods.
