Biography

Andy had his first touch with Theatre in Junior College, where he wrote and performed for his school drama group. After going through 4 years of training in acting with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Andy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (1st Class Hons) in Theatre Arts (Acting). He was the best graduate of his Diploma cohort and was a recipient of the NAFA President Award in 2011.

A bilingual actor, his acting roles include Cassio in Shakespeare’s Othello, Father/Yew Beng in Pan-Island Expressway, and Silvio in Servant of Two Masters. He had also performed in It Appears That…, a dance work that was part of the Esplanade Studio Series.

In the midst of actor training, Andy co-founded the theatre collective MirrorPlay, which he wrote, performed and directed for. It was in this collective that Andy realized that he had the potential to direct as well.

Upon completion of his training, Andy went overseas to study for a Master’s Degree in Directing, where he trained with EAST 15 Acting School in the UK and GITIS (Russian University of Theatre Arts) in Moscow. Recent directing works include three of Anton Chekhov’s Vaudevilles - The Bear, The Proposal, The Anniversary and Mozart’s Opera Bastien und Bastienne.

Andy is an associate artist of Ravindran Drama Group, and currently, he assumes the roles of a freelance theatre director, actor and educator.
