Professor Lim Yau is Artistic Director of the School of Music at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), University of the Arts Singapore. An internationally respected conductor and educator, he brings decades of experience in orchestral, operatic and choral performance, guiding the School's artistic development and music education.
A graduate of the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, he further studied with renowned conductors Franco Ferrara and Sergiu Celibidache, and was awarded a scholarship to work with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
Prior to joining NAFA, Prof Lim served as Resident Conductor of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Singapore Symphony Chorus. He has performed extensively across Asia and Europe, conducted more than 30 opera and ballet productions, and premiered works by Singapore's leading composers. He also founded The Philharmonic Chamber Choir, which has become one of the region's leading chamber choirs.
In recognition of his contributions to music, Prof Lim was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1990 and the COMPASS Lifetime Achievement Award.
