Photography (Certificate)*

Introduction

The courses are targeted at students who want to learn photography. Students will learn how to produce professional still images through a variety of photographic techniques using digital technology. This is an introduction to photographic processing techniques, imaging with digital technology and basic photo composition rules. Students will be guided on projects.

*Note

  • Photography 1 short course will have 2 daytime outdoor shoots on weekends.
  • Photography 2 short course will have 2 daytime outdoor shoots on weekends.
  • Lecturers will advise when the outdoor shoot will take place. Do note the photoshoot will replace one of the weekday lessons.

Photography 1 - Fundamentals of Digital Photography (10 sessions x 3 hours)

Student will be learning the basics settings and modes on the camera, and tips on how to use them effectively. Student will master basic composition to take great photographs.

Photography 2 - Design Elements in Photography (10 sessions x 3 hours)

Students will learn the method and process of digital images editing and how to recognise some design elements and apply it effectively. This will help the students understand the creative principles and master the techniques to produce interesting pictures with Adobe Photoshop.

Photography 3 - Studio Photography (10 sessions x 3 hours)

This is an introduction to the intricate art of studio photography. The student will acquire a clearer understanding of the impact of artificial lighting on the look of a given image. Digital camera will be used for this term.

Photography 4 - Digital Imaging (10 sessions x 3 hours)

In Digital Imaging, students will refine their digital photographs via non-destructive methods using photo enhancement, photo repair, photo retouching and photo-composite techniques in Adobe Photoshop.

Applicants must be 17 years old and above.

Prerequisites for registration of short courses

  • Applicants are required to have basic IT knowledge
  • Applicants are required to attend the short courses in sequential order
  • For Photography 3 & 4, applicants need to complete Photography 1 & 2 (within six months)

Subsidies

SkillsFuture Credit
All Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their $500 SkillsFuture Credit from the government to pay for a wide range of approved skills-related courses. Visit the SkillsFuture Credit website (www.skillsfuture.sg/credit) to choose from the courses available on the SkillsFuture Credit course directory.

National Silver Academy
Applicable to Singaporean seniors aged 50 and above who will receive a subsidy of 50% off the course fee (capped at $500 per course). Please note that the subsidy will only apply to the course fee and will not cover GST.

Cheques should be crossed and made payable to the 'Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts' and send to:
80 Bencoolen Street (S) 189655. The student's name, NRIC/Passport number and contact number must be written on the reverse side of the cheque.

Refund of Fees

Withdrawal within 14 days before the commencement date of each short course Course fee will be refunded after deduction of S$107 as administrative charges.
Withdrawal on or after commencement date
No refunds will be given.

Cancellation/ Postponement

  • NAFA reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course without prior notice.
    In the event that the class is unable to proceed due to unforeseen circumstances, NAFA will process a full refund of the course fees.

Withdrawal/ Deferment/ Transfer

  • Withdrawal or deferment requests should be made in writing with supporting relevant documents (if any) to Continuing Education. Request for deferment is subject to approval.
  • No deferment is allowed after the 2nd lesson of each short course.
  • No transfer of course upon registration.

Replacement of Classes

  • There is strictly no replacement lesson should the participant absent himself/herself from the course.

Part Time Certificate courses (January 2018 Intake) will be commencing on the week of 2 January 2018.

The enrolment for January 2018 intake has ended.

The next intake will commence in July 2018, and enrolment will be in May 2018.
