Fashion Design (Certificate)* (Revamped)


These courses are designed for beginners interested in learning the basics of fashion design. Students will be guided on how to conceptualise their research material into a design theme. The areas of study include, developing a fashion collection with integration of textiles knowledge, fashion figure sketching and digital imagining software.

Fashion Design 1 - Fashion Design Essentials (10 sessions x 3 hours)

This course introduces the basic essentials required in fashion design. Students will gain knowledge and inspiration through research on a series of categories such as fashion history, shapes and silhouettes, colours and trends as well as learn practical skills such as fashion figure sketching.

Fashion Design 2 - Digital Designing (10 sessions x 3 hours)

This course aims to impart the students with the knowledge and skills to create professional presentation boards using digital imaging software. In the process, students will be able to apply these acquired skills during the design development stage where fabric prints and repeats are transferred onto the outfit creatively and effortlessly.

Fashion Design 3 - Textiles Fundamentals and Applications (10 sessions x 3 hours)

This course exposes students to different types of textiles as well as their characteristics and properties. The importance of selecting appropriate types of fabrics for specific designs will also be taught in this course.

Fashion Design 4 - Fashion Collection Creation (10 sessions x 3 hours)

This course provides the opportunity for students to integrate knowledge and skills by executing the full design development cycle. Students will learn practical skills for the production of a fashion collection from conceptualisation to realisation for a range of garments related to a specific theme. The fashion collection will be produced in a two-dimensional form.

Applicants must be 17 years old and above.

Prerequisites for Registration

  • Applicants are required to have basic IT knowledge
  • Applicants are required to attend the short courses in sequential order
  • For Fashion Design 3 & 4, applicants need to complete Fashion Design 1 & 2 (within six months)

Applicants can sign up for the above 4 short courses at a package price of S$1800.

SkillsFuture Credit
All Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their $500 SkillsFuture Credit from the government to pay for a wide range of approved skills-related courses. Visit the SkillsFuture Credit website ( to choose from the courses available on the SkillsFuture Credit course directory.

National Silver Academy
Applicable to Singaporean seniors aged 50 and above who will receive a subsidy of 50% off the course fee (capped at $500 per course). Please note that the subsidy will only apply to the course fee and will not cover GST.

Cheques should be crossed and made payable to the 'Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts' and delivered/sent to:
80 Bencoolen Street (S) 189655. The student's name, NRIC/Passport number and contact number must be written on the reverse side of the cheque.

Refund of Fees

Withdrawal within 14 days before the commencement date of each short course Course fee will be refunded after deduction of S$107 as administrative charges.
Withdrawal on or after commencement date
No refunds will be given.

Cancellation/ Postponement

  • NAFA reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course without prior notice.
    In the event that the class is unable to proceed due to unforeseen circumstances, NAFA will process a full refund of the course fees.

Withdrawal/ Deferment/ Transfer

  • Withdrawal or deferment requests should be made in writing with supporting relevant documents (if any) to Continuing Education. Request for deferment is subject to approval.
  • No deferment is allowed after the 2nd lesson of each short course.
  • No transfer of course upon registration.

Replacement of Classes

  • There is strictly no replacement lesson should the participant absent himself/herself from the course.

Part Time Certificate courses (January 2018 Intake) will be commencing on the week of 2 January 2018.

The enrolment for January 2018 intake has ended.

The next intake will commence in July 2018, and enrolment will be in May 2018.
