Bachelor of Arts (Hons) 3D Design: New Practice

Introduction

This is a one-year top-up course for diploma graduates offered in collaboration with Loughborough University, inclusive of 7 weeks on campus in the UK.

The 3D Design: New Practice course builds on the established specialised disciplines in three-dimensional design, product design and industrial design. An open and outward-looking course, it encourages you to learn about interdisciplinary practice within a transnational and intercultural curriculum. You will have a rare opportunity to learn experimental craft and design strategies. The course offers students the choice to focus on one subject, while catering to others with a more experimental approach in creative production.

Get project opportunities that address the diversity of the practice. They encompass processes that may produce a vast range of outcomes, whether design-related, domestic, commercial, or open up extended possibilities in manufacture.

NYC500 Art and Design Dissertation 1 & 2 30

Benefit from long-term independent study, with freedom to study an area of personal interest. When choosing a topic, you are encouraged to consider the coherence of your programme/practice, and the possibility of connections and cross-fertilisation between the research topic and studio work.

NYC311 3D Design: Major Project 2 60

Prepare and execute a project for final assessment presentation in the context of a single discipline, or approach it through new models of research in broader areas of 3D practice. The topic may be a new one that exploits practice vocabulary, or capitalises on coursework produced in the previous semester.

Requirements

  1. A graduate of NAFA’s Diploma or its equivalent, with a minimum pass of 70% for the Final Year Project
  2. Submission of a portfolio of appropriate art/design work as evidence of the student’s ability
  3. Satisfactory completion of a portfolio interview
  4. Applicants should be 19 years of age or above in the year of admission of the degree course
  5. Minimum entry requirement for English language proficiency is IELTS Band 6.5 overall with not less than 6.0 in the individual reading, writing, listening and speaking tests

For special or exceptional cases, the Admissions Panel may consider an applicant whose qualifications do not conform to the above requirements (such as those with relevant experience or prior learning) on a case-by-case basis. In such cases, written acceptance will be required by Loughborough University, prior to final acceptance into the programme.

Course fees indicated here apply to top-up degree courses in the academic year of 2017, with studies commencing on 31 July 2017. All annual fees are based on 120 credits per year, for all top-up Degree Courses and are inclusive of 7% GST.

NAFA has put in place the Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) by way of insurance facility to protect the fees of students paid to NAFA. The FPS covers the Tuition Fee which is paid by students in every semester. Students will receive a copy of the certificate of insurance from our appointed FPS provider by way of email. The insured period will commence from the fee payment date or the date when the money is credited to NAFA’s Bank account (via Telegraphic Transfer). The Bachelor of Music with Honours course funded by Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) is exempted from Fee Protection Scheme.

NAFA students taking full-time programs are covered by a medical insurance scheme that provides 24-hour annual coverage of up to S$20,000 per student for hospitalisation and medical treatments in government and restructured hospitals in Singapore and overseas (if student is involved in school-related activities), throughout the course duration.

Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents or non-Student’s Pass international students who are protected by his/ her own insurance coverage in Singapore can opt-out from the scheme arranged by the Academy if the preceding condition holds. Student’s Pass holders are not allowed to opt-out of the insurance scheme. Students who wish to opt-out from the medical insurance scheme, must submit copy of their medical insurance policy together with their Student Contract.

Application period for AY2017/2018 intake opens 3 January and ends 31 March 2017.

  3. Submit all required documents listed below to the Student Admissions Office, NAFA Campus 1, for our verification within five working days from the date of your online application:
    1. Academic certificate and transcript (all diploma transcripts and graduation certificates)
    2. For NAFA current Year 3 applicants, please provide all transcripts from Year 1 to Year 3 Semester 1, and input your Year 3 Semester 1 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the online application system
    3. English qualification (GCE ‘A’ level/GCE ‘O’ level/TOEFL/TOEFL iBT/IELTS result)
    4. NRIC or passport or valid Student’s Pass

    6. Artwork portfolio for applicable courses
  4. Proceed to pay the application fee at the cashier counter in NAFA. If applicants choose to pay the application fee via PayPal, they will be required to upload the above documents during application
  5. Receive a portfolio interview/audition date via email from the Student Admissions Office. Interview date and time will be allocated upon receipt of all completed supporting documents and application fee payment.
  6. Bring your artwork/portfolio and attend your interview/audition at our campus.
  7. You will receive a letter by post indicating the outcome of your application within 4-6 weeks after your interview.
