Participatory Music Education

This community music project involves three music students from NAFA School of Music working with a group of adult learners at Jurong Spring Community Club. Students and adult learners come together to create original musical materials through improvisation and negotiation, and structuring the materials for a performance at the end of three rehearsals.  It is hoped that the participants will gain a deeper understanding of music making and the compositional process through these experiential music workshops. The project enables music students to adapt their theoretical and practical skills within outreach contexts, and to show their creativity and flexibility to generate new materials and content. In the process, students also learn teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
