'Aainaa Athirah Binte Aljefreen

From materiality, creating clothes from the idea of an internal exoskeleton then the layering them. Making it as thin and fragile as possible. This portraying the representative of how I am carrying my baggage around and how it has impacted my identity. How I portray the personal “baggage” that lurks within me - both the use of the “baggage” protecting my raw wounds and my tender emotions along with the dark, less comforting side that brings me down.

My narrative of how even though “it” is thin and barely there however by gradually layering “it” bit by bit, it does gets heavy and unbearable.

This artworks is about the reality of my family status and my memories of them in the past. Inspired by the kaleidoscope, I would want the viewers to noticed and admire the shadows, reflections and rainbows first before noticing the details on my artwork.

There’s imprinted family photos on the structure. However there are only photos from the past. The shadows/reflections from my structure are lights bouncing off from my memories, and the chaos it produces symbolises how the brain works. The memory may seem vivid but in reality I’m only remembering fragments of it. But this fragments are special and unforgettable, hence portraying the chaotic beauty.

Series of faces that portrays the term ephemeral. This artwork symoolizes how as youthful and “perfect” we maybe in appearance, but slowly as time move forward, we will start aging. The appearance of our faces will give way as we age; our face shape will start changing and there will be wrinkles. Moreover when time comes, we will fade away implying we will die. Hence I wanted to portray the stages of changing through this artwork.
