Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects Student Design Awards 2017

NAFA’s 3D Design students shone at the 2017 Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA) Student Design Awards. They are students pursuing the Landscape and Architecture course, namely, Simon Salim, Abdul Hakeem James Hausley and Silvya Tan.

Simon’s work titled ‘Ever After’ won the Gold Award in the Diploma’s ‘Outstanding Graphics Presentation’ category. ‘Ever After’ seeks to create, for children aged between 5 and 12, a fairy-tale-like forest experience and connection between nature and these children. It is lauded for its expressive graphical language, notably through the distinctive use of colour, form, light and shadow.

Hakeem James Hausley and Silvya each bagged the Silver Award in the graphics presentation category. Titled ‘Park Nirvana’, Hakeem James Hausley’s work is intended to draw out the quiet and immaculate environment of the phase of resurrection, delineating the way of Buddhism's definitive objective. Judges were impressed with the design inspiration and overall intent which were conveyed with efficacious clarity. Silvya’s ‘Kotak Kaki Lima’, a reconstructed space for street vendors, uses intelligible and compelling graphical representation through varied diagrams.

Attracting submissions from Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong and Thailand, the SILA Student Design Awards ceremony was held on 10 November 2017 at the Singapore EXPO Convention and Exhibition Centre.
