Tan Teo Kwang

Born in Singapore in 1941, Tan had his formal Western art education at St. Martin's School of Art, London from 1962 to 1967. In his formative years, he was taught by teachers of NAFA - Chen Chong Swee, Choeng Soo Pieng and Chen Wen Hsi. Considering himself an abstract expressionist, Tan did not abandon his Eastern roots, but endeavoured to meld ancient Chinese philosophy and concepts with contemporary practice in his works. The result is a unique paradigm of Chinese ink painting not commonly seen by modern practitioners and the new generation.

This work was featured in New Works, an exhibition with NAFA alumnus, Yeo Hoe Koon, and Hornsey graduate, Choy Weng Yang, collectively representing three second-generation artists of Singapore.  It was acquired for Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Collection in 2015.
