Supachai Areerungruang

Assistant Professor Supachai Areerungruang holds a Doctorate in Visual Arts from Chulalongkorn University. He is currently a lecturer in Arts Education at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Srinakarinwirot University, Thailand. Supachai continuously creates works of art that extends beyond a range of interests. His thoughts and personal experience on social, political and labour issues are presented in his art as reflections on and of humanity.

Under Top Boot is an example of the artist’s personal reflection on Thailand’s military coup since 2014 and the suppression of freedom of thought and speech under this regime. The boots represent the military and below, the people under them. The planned succession of the military leader to govern the country as the prime minister in the 2019 elections further evoke feelings, that may not be voiced.

This work was acquired by Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2019.
