As Vice-Dean of Research and Pedagogy, Rebecca is passionate about teaching and learning of the arts, specifically in professional education, signature pedagogies, and everything that lies in-between.
Rebecca is trained as a musician and musicologist, specialising in the creative musical processes of the Baroque concerto. She is the recipient of top prizes in the 20th Singapore Music Teachers' Association Competition (Piano Intermediate), 8th National Music Competition of Singapore (Piano Open), and the 75th British Federation of Festivals. Her research findings are published in Early Music, Edition HH, Early Music Review, Eighteenth-Century Music, Bach Bibliography, Bach Notes, Studi Vivaldiani, Irish Musical Studies 8, Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education, Australasian Journal of Educational Technology, and Higher Education Research and Development.
As a Senior Lecturer with the School of Music, she has taught a wide range of topics including music in context, music appreciation for performing artistes, performance history, repertoire project, methods of analyses, performance practice and music criticism. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), where she curates the art of appreciating musical milestones with adult learners.
Since 2010, Rebecca made a transition from research on musical practices of the Baroque to educational practices with the Office of Academic Affairs. She was appointed as Vice-Dean of Teaching and Learning to develop processes that assure quality and effectiveness. In 2013, she joined Harvard Graduate School of Education’s programme on ‘Leading Education Systems at National Level’. Since 2018, she has been assigned with responsibility towards research and faculty development. In this role, she spearheads a range of research projects, partnerships, and pedagogical practices that enhance the quality of education at NAFA.
For her PhD studies, she received a grant from National Arts Council, a full scholarship from the University of Liverpool, and the United Kingdom Scholarships for International Research Students. Rebecca is presently awarded the Tan Poey Quee Doctor in Education Scholarship for EdD studies at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
