Singaporean Soprano Teng Xiang Ting began her studies in vocal performance in 2014 at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in the United Kingdom. After graduating and achieving distinction for both the Master of Music Performance and Postgraduate Diploma, Teng moved to Switzerland and continued her training at the Swiss Opera Studio in Biel, where she was offered a scholarship for the years 2017 to 2019.

At the age of 23, Teng made her operatic debut performance with New Opera Singapore by singing the main role, Adina, in Donizetti’s L'elisir d'amore. Her performance received a special mention in The Straits Times as the ‘Best Debut’ of 2012. Since then, the operatic roles she has performed include the title roles of Alcina (Alcina), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Mimi (La Bohème), Norina (Don Pasquale), the Governess (Turn of the Screw), Ilia (Idomeneo), Papagena and Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Parasha (Mavra), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), and Eurydice (Orpheus in the Underworld).

In 2019, Teng made her professional debut in Switzerland at the Theatres of Biel and Solothurn by singing the roles of Belinda and the First Witch in Dido and Aeneas, where the performance received critical acclaim from the press and critics. In the same year, her performance of Norina in Don Pasquale with The Arts Place in Singapore was also highly reviewed by The Straits Times, for which she was dubbed as 'Singapore’s first true opera star'. Teng also performs regularly in Singapore, as well as in the United Kingdom and Europe where one of her recent performances was as a soloist in Richard Strauss’ Vier Letzte Lieder with Wayfarer Sinfonietta, conducted by Lien Boon Hua.

As an avid music lover, Teng has also continued to seek collaborations in repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary works. Recently, she collaborated with Red Dot Baroque in a concert featuring the music of the prolific French composer, Élisabeth Claude Jacquet de La Guerre. This December 2022, Teng will be performing the full cycle of Schubert's Winterreise in Singapore with pianist Vincent Chen.
