Sergey Tyuteykin has touched audiences all over the world with his trumpet playing. He has performed in every continent except Africa and Antarctica; on the most prestigious stages around the world such as Carnegie Hall, Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto, the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, the Kölner Philharmonie, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore. Sergey has been honoured to work under the baton of some of the greatest conductors of our time, including Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Charles Dutoit, Vladimir Ashkenasy, Lan Shui, Paavo Jarvi, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Kurt Masur and Jaap van Zweden.
Prior to joining the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Sergey was appointed by Maestro Long Yu as the Principal Trumpet of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra for its 130th Anniversary Season in 2009, a position he held for seven years. In 2014, he became a founding faculty member of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy. Prior to his time in Shanghai, Sergey held the position of Principal Trumpet with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his full time positions, Sergey has served as Guest Principal Trumpet with the Malaysia Philharmonic and has appeared with both the New York Philharmonic and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras.
Born in one of the smallest cities of the Russian countryside, Sergey began playing the trumpet in his local school band under the leadership of Vyacheslav Sergeyev, who inspired and trained children in music and orchestral playing for decades. At the age of 17 Sergey was accepted into the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory. Two years later, he transferred to the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he received intensive training in chamber music and orchestra playing. Five years later, he completed his Masters Degree in Performance and Pedagogy. While still a student at the conservatory, Sergey worked with numerous symphony orchestras based in Moscow including the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra (Moscow Radio), and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. At the same time, Sergey was a member of the Moscow-based Brass Quintet named after Timofei Dokshitzer.
As a Principal Trumpet player, Sergey can be heard on several CDs, including Naxos’ release of Korngold’s Sea Hawk/Deception soundtrack with the Moscow Symphony conducted by William Stromberg and the Sony release of Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony and Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra conducted by Long Yu.
Sergey has taken lessons and masterclasses around the globe from many well-known trumpeters such as Pavel Grinko, Vadim Novikov, Evgeny Fomin, Matthias Hoffs, Uwe Koller, Tom Booth and Allen Vizzutti.
