Lim Leong Seng
The Crack of Dawn No.3
Silkscreen
2023
87 x 74 cm

Lim Leong Seng is a well-known and prolific sculptor with over 40 iconic public sculpture and heritage commissions gracing Singapore’s landscape. Journey from the Wilderness is Lim’s ninth solo exhibition, a metaphorical sojourn spanning over five decades of artmaking that delves into a world grappling with climate crisis, conflict and adversity with desire for social change. As an artist, Lim approaches artmaking both materially and conceptually, confronting dilemmas of our age through a series of sculptural installations, silkscreen paintings and sketches.

Lim graduated from the Baharuddin Vocational Institute in 1970 majoring in fabric, design and printing where he met artist-educators like Iskandar Jalil and Jaafar Latiff who shaped his early artistic vision. Immersed in the experimental spirit of the conceptual art movement in the 1970s, Lim saw new materials and methods as tools for conveying ideas and engaging with social issues. He continues to ponder the complexities of the world, using his practice to question our place and the challenges we face.
