As part of their three-day residency in NAFA, Simon Smith and Ellie Lovegrove will work with selected composition students to craft and perform new compositions, along with an exciting variety of solo and duo repertoire by Bartók, Takemitsu and Kurtág.
Simon Smith has performed as a soloist with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Philharmonia, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and the Orchestra of St John’s Smith Square. He has played many recitals in the UK, including the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room in London, as well as performed concertos and recorded chamber music in concert halls and broadcasts in Russia, Beijing, Hong Kong, and other cities around the world.
Ellie Lovegrove is a graduate of the Royal College of Music and has studied with Paul Beniston and Andrew Crowley. She continued her studies with Michael Laird in London, and Kristian Steenstrup in Denmark. Ellie has performed with orchestras such as the BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, English National Ballet, Royal Ballet Sinfonia and Britten Sinfonia. She has also performed with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales Brass Ensemble, London Philharmonic Orchestra Brass Ensemble and English National Opera Brass.
