Crossings promises an exciting evening of a diverse collection of contemporary dance works featuring distinguished local and international guest choreographers. Jacky Yu (Hong Kong) presents a piece to showcase a high level of individualism and the fluidity of contemporary movement language, while Gillian Tan (Singapore) explores the concept of In Transition with a collaboration between music, dance and fashion. Shahrin Johry (Singapore) restages a contemporary work rooted in Bharathanatyam and street, whereas Jeffrey Tan (Singapore) revisits Amalgamation (excerpt) to challenge the dancers’ movement vocabulary while still maintaining the strength and beauty of classical ballet. Distinct in the Southeast Asian region as one of the few conservatory-style courses with a contemporary outlook, the range of the repertoire is testament to the edge and versatility that NAFA’s conservatory-style trained dancers have become known for.
