Featuring recent printmaking works executed by nine NAFA staff, alumni and students, After Printmaking… showcases how this art form has moved on from the conventions of printmaking as a two dimensional form into conceptual storytelling that reflects the physical object. Often regarded only in two dimensions, printmaking techniques have evolved to incorporate three dimensional representation of shadow and light, surface relief and singular challenges to process which defy the reified multiplicity and predictability of traditional print production. The works presented are produced from various printmaking techniques including those such as linocut, monoprint, emboss, woodcut, silkscreen and lithograph. Underneath the maker’s hands, these assimilate with the sculptural and the object based assemblage to reinvent contemporary printmaking into a triad of unique design, form and unexpected outcomes.
