ENG1100 Pre-intermediate Level English
ENG1100 Pre-intermediate Level English covers four components of language learning: listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills. The approach integrates receptive skills (listening and reading) with productive skills (speaking and writing) to provide an effective learning environment.
Students learn a range of listening strategies from identifying gist and intention, to previewing main ideas to improve decoding skills. Students apply a host of reading tips such as locating specific information using skimming and scanning to increase reading and comprehension competencies.
Through daily interaction with peers, students have the opportunity to practice speaking and expressing their ideas, and build their confidence in oral communication. By learning rules of the language such as parts of speech, grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, spelling, subject-verb agreement, question, and sentence construction, students acquire fundamental writing skills.

ENG1200 Intermediate Level English covers four components of language learning: listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills. The approach integrates receptive skills (listening and reading) with productive skills (speaking and writing) to provide a holistic learning environment.
Students learn a range of listening strategies from extracting specific information, to identifying context clues to enhance accuracy. Students study a variety of text types to increase their reading and comprehension competencies. Through daily speaking exercises and frequent oral presentations, students sharpen their speaking abilities. By learning rules of the language such as grammar, tenses, parts of speech, syntax, text coherence and style, students acquire techniques to write exposition and argumentative essays.
