The Art of Acting: A Beginner’s Journey

(6 sessions x 3 hours)

This introductory course provides a solid foundation in acting techniques for beginners. Through practical exercises, group work, and individual coaching, students will develop essential skills such as vocal projection, physicality, emotional expression, and stage presence. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to confidently perform in front of an audience and collaborate effectively with their peers.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:
  • Master basic acting techniques.
  • Use body language and voice to create characters and deliver performances/presentations.
  • Collaborate with peers in group exercises while respecting the creative inputs of others.
  • Use improvisation as a tool to enhance spontaneity.
  • Explore creative expressions through improvisation.

A digital certificate will be issued upon successful course completion, which requires a minimum attendance rate of 75%.

Please note that no replacement classes are offered for missed lessons.

Our Trainers

 
Jum Rubin

Jum Rubin is a theatre director, acting coach, and teacher. She is the founder of the company, Theatre Etcetera. She holds an MA with Distinction in Theatre Directing from Middlesex University, UK Her work takes her across the globe, including Thailand, Romania, the UK, Canada, Japan, China, Chile, and Cambodia. She has taught at East15 Acting School, Drama Studio London, Phare (a performing arts school in Cambodia), Srinakharinwirot University, and Finale Academy in Thailand.

In 2024, her production of Romeo and Juliet was invited to the International Shakespeare Festival in Craiova, Romania. She also led the renowned Living History Project at East15 in June 2023. She worked on a devised performance based on the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding at The National University of Theatre and Film (UNATC) in Bucharest, Romania. This show ran successfully for one year and won the Production of the Year award in 2021. Jum has conducted workshops in various countries, including Intercultural Devising at New Earth Academy in the UK, a Drama Festival for teenagers in Romania, and Teacher Training with drama techniques in Shanghai, China. Additionally, she served as an assistant director of "Agamemnon" and as a dialect and culture coach for "The King and I" at the Stratford Festival in Canada.

Jum has contributed to the development of theatre and drama education globally. She was the head of the drama department at a school in London. Her students successfully went on to study at top universities, including Rada, Guildhall, East15, Leeds University, and Goldsmiths. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Art (FRSA).
