Sogetsu Ikebana Beginner Autumn Palette

(6 sessions x 3 hours)

Immerse yourself in the evocative art of Sogetsu Ikebana, exploring the dynamic forms and expressive potential of Japanese flower arranging through the lens of autumn. This captivating course introduces the rich history and fundamental principles of Sogetsu, specifically focusing on how to capture the unique beauty of the season. Through hands-on practice, you'll understand core principles in thematic exercises inspired by autumn's colors, textures, and moods, primarily working with Moribana (low container) arrangements. Cultivate your individual artistic voice as you learn to see and express the inherent beauty of seasonal flowers, foliage, and even unexpected autumnal materials. Beyond technique, this course fosters a deep appreciation for Ikebana's aesthetic and philosophical underpinnings, providing a rich foundation for your future study of this art form.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:
  1. Use basic ikebana tools confidently, including traditional kenzan (needle-point holder), to create autumnal arrangements.
  2. Apply techniques of the Sogetsu school basic styles, for moribana (low container) arrangements, in thematic exercises inspired by the aesthetics of autumn.
  3. Compose ikebana arrangements with seasonal plant materials, emphasising line, space, and the inherent beauty of fall.
  4. Apply the core principles of form, balance, and harmony in Ikebana, reflecting the visual qualities of the autumn season.
  5. Foster an appreciation for Ikebana's aesthetic and philosophical underpinnings for future study.

A digital certificate will be issued upon successful course completion, which requires a minimum attendance rate of 75%.

Please note that no replacement classes are offered for missed lessons.
