Music Preparatory Course

Introduction

The Music Preparatory Course is designed specially for students who wish to develop their instrumental foundation and music theory knowledge, prior to entering the three-year Diploma in Music programme. The course will run for 12 weeks across a Semester, from January to April.

  • Instrumental Tuition (Principal Study) - You will attend weekly individual lessons with selected professional musicians. These specialist tutors will help you develop strong and solid techniques along with preparation of repertoire.
  • Music Appreciation - You will learn about basic musical form as well as the lives and works of leading composers. You will also learn about the development of western music history.
  • Music Theory & Aural Training - This class will cover all basics in music theory and ear training. You will sit for an assessment based on the requirements of ABRSM Grade V theory, which may also be taken externally.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate the establishment of solid technical foundation through the presentation of required musical works
  • Communicate musical understanding of required musical works through performance or in a composition portfolio interview
  • Establish foundation of pitch accuracy, chord recognition, rhythmic and melodic understanding

Refund Policy - Preparatory Music Course (More than 30 days or 50 Hours)

Fees If Student’s written notice of withdrawal is received
100% of the Course Fee paid and Miscellaneous Fees less:- any outstanding payment due and payable by the Student to NAFA Within Cooling-off Period, that is, within 7 working days after signing the Contract or Student’s Pass application is rejected by Immigration and Checkpoints Authority or the Academy:

  1. does not commence the course on course commencement date
  2. terminates the course before course commencement date
  3. does not complete the course by the course completion date
  4. terminates the course before the course completion date
  5. has not ensured that the student meets the course entry or matriculation requirement as set by the Academy stated in Student Contract within the stipulated timeline set by CPE
100% of the course fee paid More than 14 calendar days before the commencement of the course
No Refund Not more than 14 calendar days before the commencement of the course or after the commencement of the course

Note:

  1. Aside from the voluntary withdrawal requests put up by the Students, the above Refund Policy is also applicable when the Student is expelled from NAFA or withdrawal from the course for any reason.
  2. NAFA reserves the right to claim against the Student and/or parent/guardian for any balance outstanding payment due and payable.

 

Enrolment Schedule for AY 2016/17:

Application Period: 1 Dec – 31 Dec 2018
Audition Date: 10 January 2019
Audition Venue: NAFA Campus 3, C4-02 Multi-purpose Hall

Course will commence on 14 January 2019 and end on 12 April 2019.
Applicants will be asked to attend an interview/audition session on 10 January 2019.
Course Fees (12 weeks): $2,140.00 (inclusive of GST)

Steps

  1. Register online at here. (For Applicants who have not received their ‘O’ Levels results, please fill in the school’s prelim results)
  2. Attend the audition and interview on 10 January 2019. Applicants will be notified of the audition time and venue by 5 January 2019.
  3. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 11 January 2019.
  4. Late admission may be considered at the discretion of the Dean, School of Music, subject to availability.
