(4 sessions x 3 hours)Modern Cloisonné offers a hands-on introduction to the traditional art of cloisonné, tracing its historical significance from its origins in Japan and China. Learn how intricate designs are formed by adhering metal strips to create cells (cloisons), ready to be filled with vibrant pigments. This course emphasizes contemporary approaches and materials, equipping you with a thorough understanding of the necessary tools and techniques. You will master the process of transferring designs, applying modern cloisonné methods, and ultimately crafting your own thematic contemporary cloisonné artworks from start to finish.
Learning Outcomes:At the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:
- Transfer visual designs onto wood surfaces to serve as the foundation for cloisonné compositions.
- Apply modern cloisonné techniques using metal strips and pigment to create intricate decorative artwork.
- Describe the historical and cultural evolution of the cloisonné art form and its influence today.
- Use specialized tools to shape, place, and secure metal cloisons and apply colour with precision.
- Care for and preserve finished cloisonné works to maintain their integrity and visual appeal over time.
