Dreaming in Gouache

(5 sessions x 3 hours)

Curious about how gouache differs from other water-based mediums?

This course introduces the fundamentals of gouache painting, including techniques such as understanding color theory and mixing, creating soft gradient washes, and effective use of photo references.

Participants will explore how to add texture and depth to their artwork, creating captivating landscapes and vibrant still-life studies. By the end of the course, they’ll gain the skills and confidence to bring their creative visions to life with this medium.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:
  1. Understand color theory and tonal values
  2. Compose illustrations from photographs
  3. Work confidently with gouache as a medium

A digital certificate will be issued upon successful course completion, which requires a minimum attendance rate of 75%.

Please note that no replacement classes are offered for missed lessons.

Our Trainers

 

Shirly Koh

Shirly is an art educator and artist who is interested in understanding and learning more about her internal world in order to relate and connect better with others in this world. She finds inspiration in the every day and seeks to celebrate and appreciate life’s little moments.

Currently also an adjunct lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic, Shirly is an experienced art educator and curriculum developer for schools and corporations. With over nine years of experience, she works closely with both children and adults, striving to nurture a love for the arts in all her classes.

She graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts with a Degree in Fine Art (Honours). She was the recipient of the Chan Davies Art Prize 2016, UOB Painting of the Year 2016 - Emerging Artist – Silver, NOISE Singapore Award 2015, and LASALLE Future Leader Scholarship in 2013.

She was recently part of the 2022 Meta (Facebook) Open Art Commission.
