Biography

Joyce is an educator in mathematics and music. She attained her degree in pure mathematics from the National University of Singapore in 2003 and has been continuously teaching and writing teaching materials on mathematics since. She has taught at Ministry of Education (MOE) secondary schools, Integrated Programme schools and mainstream schools.

At MOE, she held leadership positions such as the coordinator for Music education, overseeing the Music curriculum and programmes for the school. Joyce has worked with different artists and organisations to value-add to students’ learning experience through different projects like SG50 music, SG50 Good Morning Cher Exhibition and level-wide music involvement programmes. With years of teaching experience, she has groomed many students from all walks of life. She aims to enrich student learning with different modes of learning experiences.

Other than being an educator, Joyce is an Erhu 二胡performer. She has played in different Chinese Orchestras like the National University of Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Hsinghai Arts Association Chinese Orchestra, Siong Leng Musical Association, as well as with prominent musicians like African Group Etran Finatawa, Sunny Wong and many others. Being an avid Chinese Orchestra member, she is exposed to different traditional Chinese Music such as the Chinese Opera and vocal Min Yue 民乐. Her passion in the arts is never-ending as she actively performs, attends concerts and music education courses for professional development. She believes in staying relevant in this ever-changing education landscape, which led her to pursue Master of Arts in Educational Management.

Currently, she is an Adjunct Lecturer for the NAFA Foundation Programme, teaching Mathematical Literacy.
