Dr. Li Kai Han Jeremiah

Part-Time Lecturer

Doctorate in Musical Arts,
University of Kansas, USA

Masters of Music,
University of Kansas, USA

Besides actively teaching at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Jeremiah heads Chamber.Sounds, a local contemporary chamber music group which seeks to promote local contemporary music to Singaporeans and the rest of the world. Since its inception in 2005, Chamber.Sounds has featured more than 10 local composers in their concerts, and has reached out to overseas composers from Canada, Japan, Australia and more. Comprising NAFA’s 2007 music diploma graduates, Chamber.Sounds provides an interactive environment, not just for local composers but also local musicians and artistes from other fields to showcase, share and enjoy one another’s crafts, which helps to support the growth and development of the arts.

Other than managing Chamber.Sounds, Jeremiah is also an active composer with a couple of accolades under his belt. He is a sought-after composer whose music is challenging and virtuosic, with an unyielding tenacity towards the treatment of dissonances. He is also inspired by passacaglias, ground basses and other ostinati. He has performed in numerous countries, and was the runner-up for the first Con/un/drum Competition with the piece “Remembering the First Dawn over the Crystalline Celestial Garden”. He received the 2010 Anthony Cius Award for “Best Student Composer” during his stint at the University of Kansas, and was awarded the NAC Overseas Bursary in 2007 and 2009.

Jeremiah is also currently an Associate Artiste at Odyssey Dance Theatre serving as their composer-in-residence.
